True Story: St. Louis Rules!
The Missouri Botantical Garden
One of Travis’s favorite places. Come vist one of the nation’s oldest botanical gardens in continuous operation. And also, a national historic landmark! Travis recommends checking out the rare Dawn Redwoods, his favorite trees, near the Woodland Garden. Link to the Missouri Botanical Garden website
The City Museum
It’s downtown. It has a giant slide and caves and kinetic science activities and it’s pretty much a huge playground for kids and adults. Link to the City Museum website. If you’re staying in Saint Charles we’d recommend you take a taxi or Uber so you don’t have to worry about parking downtown.
This is Forest Park
Forest Park is closer to St. Louis than St. Charles, so you’ll also want to Uber from the hotel if you’re staying in St. Charles. Some cool things you get to do when you visit Forest Park is see many different bears at the Saint Louis Zoo, the most bears per dollar in the country if you ask Annie (and she’s calculated this). Also it’s free.
When you go to Forest Park, you can also go to the Saint Louis Art Museum and count all the dogs and tell Annie how many you counted. It’s a game, and you can win!!!!
For those interested in learning more about our city, the History Museum is also conveniently located in Forest Park. Annie played piano for auditions for a production of Meet Me in St. Louis at the History Museum, which is a pretty St. Louis thing to do.
Saint Charles Historic Main Street Tour
Out-of-towners staying in Saint Charles can experience the Main Street Tour. At the time of writing this website, Annie and Travis haven’t been on this. There’s lots of PokeStops on Main Street though!
The Saint Louis Arch
Annie has not been here, and from friends and acquaintances she understands the experience is basically a very claustrophobic elevator ride. Probably skip this.
Laumeier Sculpture Park
Cool sculptures and like a million PokeStops, this is a highly-rated attraction.
Bissinger’s Chocolate Factory
Travis won’t be here because he’s getting married, but this is where he works! If you call ahead you can book a free tour. Yes, they give out small chocolate samples on the free tour.
Cahokia Mounds
If you feel like a half-day trip and some quality time spent outdoors, go here. It’s very interesting to learn about the Cahokians and their society. There are archealogical exhibits as well as some of the mounds the Cahokians built, accessible to tourists so you can climb the mounds.
